用膨润土作动物垫圈料处理废水、臭气膨润土能使动物粪便容易分散、清理。由于圈养动物场和屠宰场、水产加工场产生的污水、臭气对环境有害，可在这些场所撒膨润土，回收高效肥料。膨润土可作为浑浊水的澄清剂，被污染水的防水剂、污水处理剂等。用膨润土处理印染废水、煤气洗涤废水、味精厂等废水、废物，去除率达99.5%。在水库上游撒膨润土可使水库不洁物质絮凝沉入库底经生物净化加以处理。
